Cultural Exchange in Brazil

The Historic Center of Salvador de Bahia in Brazil is known as the Pelourinho. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and remains a hub for the Afro-Brazilian community.

Experience Salvador in 2026

The Bahia Brazil Arts Center is pleased to announce a guided cultural exchange trip in Salvador, Bahia hosted by Almiro Aquilino dos Santos and Valdizia Aquilina dos Santos. Come experience Salvador during for an incredible two weeks with Carnival scheduled from February 13 - 18.

  • Transportation to and from airport and other events

  • Lodging

  • Sightseeing tours

  • Classes in Dance Afro and Capoeira

  • Visits to Candomblé terreiros (temples)

  • Daily lessons in Portuguese

  • Local theatrical performances

  • Visits to other local historical sites

Get ready!

  • You’ll need a valid US passport and, as of April 10, 2025, a visa to enter Brazil.

What to Bring to Salvador

  • Sleeping bag and pillow

  • Mosquito repellent

  • Sunscreen/suntan lotion

  • Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, etc.)

  • Camera

  • Pen and paper

  • Small first aid kit (hopefully you won't need it, but just in case!)

  • Clothes and shoes appropriate for the weather. Remember that Brazil is a tropical country and February in Brazil is summer!

  • Spending money! Although many costs are taken care of, there are many beautiful things you may want to bring home with you. Also, costs of dining out at restaurants are not covered. Costs of traveling to locations of personal interest that are not part of the group are your responsibility.

  • Any other personal needs (medications, etc.)

  • A positive attitude and a desire to have fun!
